Our clients came to us with a beautiful site for a proposed Bed and Breakfast. The sloping site has an existing house perched at the top of the hill and a clear view to Mount Macedon. The land falls within a Bushfire Management Overlay (BMO) zone so we have been working with a site rated BAL 40 (or Bushfire Attach Level), a high risk site and will require specific materials, finishes and guidelines to be used and adhered to along with specified setbacks from vegetation.
The design itself takes advantage of the northern sun for heating and cross ventilation for cooling and public spaces orientated to take in the views to Mount Macedon to the east. The roofs rise and fall to encourage different types of meeting, privacy levels and views.
The design offers intimate places of rest and calm in some places and long dynamic views as part of social spaces.
